The home team had most of the ball and created seven chances to Modena’s 11.
Venezia took the lead in first-half added time through star man Joel Pohjanpalo, who scored a penalty awarded for a wild elbow on Francesco Zampano by Thomas Battistella that occurred just inside the box.
Modena equalised in the 61st minute when Fabio Gerli unleashed a rocket from 25 yards out.
Pohjanpalo had his double ten minutes later when he finished off a ball that was brought to ground from a corner.
Antonio Palumbo made it 2-2 in the 77th with a penalty awarded against Venezia keeper Jesse Joronen, who came off his line and fouled the sprinting Ettore Gliozzi.
Joronen saved Palumbo’s initial spot kick, but palmed it straight back into his path for an easy finish.
Venezia sit fourth, nine points behind Parma. Modena are eighth on 34 points.
