A man in his 60s died in hospital last night, bringing the number of people to die in Victoria after testing positive to the disease to 16.
Health Minister Jenny Mikakos said the man had underlying health conditions, and had not travelled overseas.
It is likely he contracted the virus in the community.
Meanwhile, the state recorded just one new case of the virus overnight, bringing the total to 1337.
“This is a very promising result, we have seen a stabilisation of the numbers in recent days and, in fact, there have been no further cases of community transmission,” Mikakos said.
More than 93,000 tests have been conducted in Victoria.
More than 93 per cent of people who tested positive in the state have now recovered, leaving just 70 active cases.
Some 135 cases – or 9.9 per cent of the total – have been attributed to untraced community transmission.
There are 27 people still in hospital, of whom 10 are in intensive care.
