Victorian Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton this morning revealed two Victorian men aged in their 70s had died from coronavirus overnight.
A third man, also aged in his 70s, has also since died.
Health Minister Jenny Mikakos confirmed the third death this afternoon.
“All died in a Melbourne hospital and, of course, I am urging everyone to respect the privacy of the families during this difficult time,” she told reporters.
“We all have a role to play in the fight against coronavirus and this means we must all take very seriously the message that we must stay home unless it is absolutely essential to leave your home, you must stay at home at every opportunity.”
All three victims had existing medical conditions.
It comes as 52 new cases of coronavirus were recorded in Victoria, bringing the statewide total to 520 cases, including 300 men and 216 women.
People infected are aged from pre-school age to their late 80s.
Fourteen coronavirus patients are being treated in hospital.
