The single new case brings Victoria’s total to 1329.
Premier Daniel Andrews this morning announced that around 7000 Victorians were tested for the virus at the weekend.
The progress in flattening the curve, however, is not an invitation to relax the measures, Andrews said.
Speaking to Melbourne radio station 3AW Andrews said that while it was a “positive result” the situation was still “very, very fragile”.
With Victoria in a state of emergency is in place until at least late May he said the state had to “stay the course”.
“It’s not just a theory, there are countries who have relaxed the rules and now they’re in a harder lockdown because it [the virus] moves so fast,” Andrews said.
“If [the virus] gets away there’s no pulling it back and then we have people using machines to breathe and we can’t have that happen.”
Andrews also talked down the possibility that cafes, restaurants and bars could re-open in the near future.
“They were closed for a reason. There might be some things we can do, some rules we can let off a little bit, but we have to be careful,” he said.
It comes after 84-year-old Giuseppe Franzoni died from the virus in a Victorian hospital on Sunday, bringing the state’s death toll to 15.
Franzoni’s family has pleaded with people to follow the rules and stay home.
“Do all these people think they are invincible?” Franzoni’s daughter-in-law, Patricia Franzoni, told 9News.
Australia’s death toll from coronavirus now stands at 72.
