Comprising the Italian clubs of The University of Melbourne, Monash University, Swinburne University of Technology and RMIT, VITA seized the opportunity to transport students to Italy while paying homage to the golden era of Italian film under the theme ‘Vacanze Romane’ (Roman Holiday).
“Given the recent limits on travel, we aimed to bring Italy to us with a combination of good food and drinks, great Italian music, and a bright, fun atmosphere,” the association’s president, Anna Fazio, said.
The 2021 Italian Ball featured a Saluministi Spritz Bar, canapés on arrival, a three-course meal and an open dance floor, while more than $600 worth of prizes were given away in the lead up to and during the evening.
It marked the return of VITA’s annual ball after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“After a rollercoaster of a year going in and out of lockdown, it felt surreal to be able to bring so many students from universities all over Victoria together in person to celebrate Italian culture,” Fazio said.
“We hope people had an amazing time, particularly after the past couple of years.
“Most of all, we hope that they felt a real sense of community and connection to our shared Italian culture.”
Fazio and the committee thanked Saluministi and the ST. ALi Italian Film Festival for partnering with VITA on another successful event, as well as the San Remo Ballroom for helping the association bring its vision for the evening to life.
“I’d also like to thank our committee for their efforts this year, especially Olivia Zagari, our amazing vice president,” Fazio said.
“I couldn’t have done this year without her.”
The Italian Ball will be back in September 2022.
