The government has been fining and impounding migrant rescue ships that head to other ports than those assigned them, saying that “we are only enforcing the law”.
Meloni took to social media to make her point.
“Crime of solidarity? We are enforcing laws and principles that have always existed in every State: it is not allowed to ease illegal immigration and to favour, directly or indirectly, human trafficking,” responded Meloni.
“Solidarity is stopping the voyages of hope and the deaths at sea.
“Helping enrich those who organise human trafficking has nothing to do with the words solidarity and humanity.”
