The 50-year-old woman was allegedly bitten by a wolf in the isolated area of Porcari, in an attempt to defend her dog, said Mayor Leonardo Fornaciari.

“I recently met a lady from Porcari who had a close encounter with a wolf yesterday,” the mayor wrote.

“She assured me that it was not a Czechoslovakian wolf. She was taking her dog for a walk in Via Pollinelle, on the ridge on the border between Porcari and Montecarlo.

“A wolf came out and tried to attack the dog and the lady, in order to protect it, suffered a bite on her hand and forearm.”

Czechoslovakian wolfdogs are a popular pet breed in Italy, however few people have the experience with dogs necessary for handling them.
