Marianna Pace was the oldest student at the municipal night school in Benevento near Naples.
“I’ve always been curious about life, and I consider myself quite well-read, but I’ve always been lacking that ‘piece of paper’,” said the newly qualified Pace on Monday.
“[That paper] which I obtained today in an environment that welcomed me with great affection and serenity.”
“I was always top of my class and my dad promised me he’d fund my higher education, but then the war and other things got in the way and I had to settle for a primary school certificate.
“Now I’ve achieved my dream.”
