On Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he had invited Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni to Ukraine.

Zelensky tweeted:

“I congratulated @GiorgiaMeloni on her appointment as Prime Minister of Italy. I’m hopeful for further fruitful cooperation. We discussed Ukraine’s integration into #EU and #NATO. I told her about the current situation in our country and invited her to visit Ukraine.”

Meloni reportedly had a phone conversation with Zelensky on Friday, in which she renewed the Italian government’s full support for Kyiv within the framework of international alliances on the political, military, economic and humanitarian fronts.

The premier’s office confirmed Italy’s commitment to make every diplomatic effort possible towards the cessation of the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine, as well as to assisting with the country’s reconstruction.

The premier also voiced the hope that an agreement on exporting grain from Ukraine’s ports would be renewed; a fundamental accord to avert a possible food crisis, Meloni stressed.
