“I think that hope can use all the variations and novelties, let’s hope,” Zuppi, president of the Italian Bishops Council, said at the presentation of the Svimez report on Southern Italy.

His comments were referring to Trump’s promise to seal peace in Ukraine in one day.

“I think that it can’t be him alone, it would be impossible and wrong, but he can bring an innovative intervention that creates different conditions.

“Of course, the important thing is that there are other actors … [We must] be aware that we cannot get out of it alone.

“This was what our parents were very clear about after the Second World War,” Zuppi explained.

Peace in Ukraine “even if it is close, will always come too late,” he continued.

“It is a tragedy, period.

“So, the sooner it arrives, the better.

“I believe that there is starting to be a clear awareness that it is essential to find a way to end the conflict,” Zuppi concluded.
