The University of Bologna ranks 130th, an improvement over last year’s 146th.

Also among the top 200 universities in the world are the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa (137th) and Sapienza University of Rome (170th).

Like Bologna, these latter universities have also moved up in rankings compared to the 2025 rankings, where they were 154th and 185th, respectively.

Following them in the top 250 are the Polytechnic University of Milan, the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa and the University of Padua.

The University of Oxford once again tops the global ranking of the best universities, which includes over 2000 institutions from 115 countries, for the tenth consecutive year.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology takes silver, while Princeton and Cambridge universities share third place.
