It’s the September event in a monthly series of movie matinees offered by Co.As.It. Community and Individual Support Services.

Nuovo Cinema Paradiso is told from the perspective of Salvatore, now a famous film director in Rome.

He recounts the friendship which unfolded between himself as a boy and cinema projectionist Alfredo, at Cinema Paradiso in Giancaldo, a Sicilian village.

After receiving news of Alfredo’s death, Salvatore returns to the village for the funeral, only to discover that the Cinema Paradiso of his childhood is at risk of demolition, after remaining in disuse for six years.

All screenings are free and open to anyone interested in making new friends, catching up with old ones or simply enjoying a few hours with some of Italy’s finest movies.

It’s also a chance to scratch up on your Italian, as the movies and brief talks about them are entirely in Italian.

The current program is as follows:

Sep 24 – Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (1988)

Oct 30 – Malena (2000)

Nov 26 – Sapore di Mare (1983)
