The 30-year-old tourist was Chiara Jaconis from Padua.

State attorneys are probing the couple on manslaughter and non-vigilance charges.

The charges were officially pressed ahead of the autopsy.

Meanwhile, police on Wednesday examined a video showing the incident in which one of the children allegedly threw the statue from the balcony, investigative sources said.

Jaconis, who was in Naples on holiday with her partner to celebrate her 30th birthday, died on Tuesday from traumatic brain injuries.

The woman was being treated at the Ospedale del Mare in Naples, where she was taken after the incident on Sunday.

She was hit by the statue while walking in one of the most famous areas of the city - the Quartieri Spagnoli - before heading to the airport to take a flight back home.
