The bill without the amendment is currently being examined by parliament.

On Wednesday, the Lower House’s constitutional affairs committee rejected an opposition amendment to bring in identification codes on police uniforms so officers accused of using excessive force can be identified.

Molteni said the aim of bringing in bodycams was to “protect officers of the police forces, who never dodge the truth and transparency and never have”.

“Identification codes are an instrument against the police forces,” he added.

“I’ve always been against identification codes on police force uniforms.

“[Identification codes are] a dangerous, damaging instrument that encourages easy, manipulative complaints about the work of our police forces, who deserve recognition and respect.”
