Earlier this week, Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy announced that he was aiming high, visiting Torre Annunziata, near Naples, to present the project of a consortium he is leading to take over Savoia Calcio.

The Campania club, which have the crest of the House of Savoy royal dynasty as their symbol, currently play in the fifth tier of Italian soccer ― Eccellenza.

“I have a dream for Savoia Calcio,” said Filiberto, the grandson of Umberto II, the last King of Italy before the Italian people voted to dump the monarchy and establish a republic after World War II.

“I want to take them into (third-tier) Serie C within three or four years and then go up to Serie B.

“I’m here to tell you that together, with the city and the fans, we will take back Savoia Calcio and make this great team grow.”
