The Polytechnic University of Milan is the highest ranked in the country at 170th place in the 2018 QS World University Rankings, climbing 13 spots from last year.

It’s followed by the University of Bologna in 188th place and two new entries from Pisa.

The Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies and the Scuola Normale Superiore both sit at 192nd place.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was named the top university in the world for the sixth consecutive year.

Fellow American institutes, Stanford University and Harvard University, rounded out the top three in the world.
