“The announcement last night of the ceasefire in Lebanon is a very important and positive development, obviously we must consider it a starting point and not a point of arrival,” she told the 10th Med Dialogues in Rome.
“We must seize this opportunity and work with conviction to stabilise the Israeli-Lebanese border, which allows all displaced persons, both Israeli and Lebanese, to return to their homes in safety.”
Meanwhile, Italy will conduct an in-depth analysis on possible immunity for Benjamin Netanyahu after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a warrant for his arrest, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said Wednesday.
The arrest warrant is for suspected Gaza war crimes.
“We have taken note of the decision of the ICC on the arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Gallant,” he told the Lower House.
“But we believe it is essential to examine in detail the reasons for such decisions.
“[For this reason] we are carrying out legal investigations in conjunction with other EU countries in relation to the prevalence of general international law over immunities.”
