Her suggestion came as she took part in The European House Ambrosetti (TEHA) Forum at Cernobbio on Lake Como on Sunday.
Schlein took part in a debate with 5-Star Movement leader Giuseppe Conte and Carlo Calenda, the head of the centrist Azione group.
During the debate she said the opposition should work in the same way that they do in the European Parliament.
“Majorities are built on dossiers and content there,” Schlein said.
“It’s an approach that I agree with a great deal and that has led us to have dialogue with Carlo Calenda and other political parties.”
The first common front for the opposition parties is the national health system, with Calenda launching a proposal to find the financial coverage to be able to inject four billion euros into it.
“Let’s work on it together,” Schlein said in relation to this.
Conte, meanwhile, backed the idea of introducing a tax on corporations’ surplus profits, saying this would be “good and fair”.
He also said the State could find revenue by “cutting environmentally harmful subsidies” such as those benefitting fossil-fuel projects, saying this would provide “room to build an expansive economic policy”.
