Canberra - After much discussion and collaboration, the seven students decided to produce a podcast on the theme proposed by The Week of the Italian Language in the World, Italian and Sustainability.
The project, completed over 12 weeks, saw the students engage in the production of six episodes.
They learnt how to produce a podcast from all aspects, such as how to conduct interviews, write scripts, record and edit.
The result of the teamwork is Sustainability in Keywords, a podcast in Italian that’s now available on Spotify.
Professor Ricatti said that the main objective of the project was to organise a participative course where the students got to decide what to do and how to do it.
The project created “an environment as authentic as possible for the use of Italian at advanced levels.”
For Ricatti, the podcast seemed like a good idea because it allowed interviews in Italian and gave students practical experience, like writing e-mails using both formal and informal language.
What was interesting, as Ricatti pointed out, was how the students use the Italian language differently according to their personalities.
Sustainability as a topic opens up the possibility for listeners to compare how two distant and different countries, Australia and Italy, deal with the issue.
