The wedding means that one of the last “eternal bachelors” of Italian cinema is now off the market.
The actor has been in Sydney for some time, shooting the film Spremi un grappolo.
Born in Verona but an “adopted” Milanese, Chiari is 45 years old, while his new wife is from Rome and 20 years his junior.
Chiari’s previous love interests include Italian actress Lucia Bosè and American actress and singer Ava Gardner.
News of the wedding reached Rome from Sydney via a telephone call to Chelli’s father, maestro Carlo Rustichelli.
The bride’s mother, Evi Rustichelli, was present at the ceremony, which was held at the Holy Cross Church in Woollahra.
The newlyweds are on their honeymoon in Fiji and will return to Rome on April 10.
In the photo, the couple is celebrating at the wedding reception, which took place at a restaurant in King’s Cross.
