The game also counted towards the Community Shield, a game between last year’s Champions and the Dockerty Cup winners.

Avondale FC got the hot start with Zinni scoring from a through ball in the 22nd minute.

The Avengers double their lead when Ahmed scored from a rebound following a corner to make it 2-0 in the 31st minute.

Oakleigh scored just before half time to make it 2-1 at half time.

In the second half both teams had their chances, however the Avondale defence hung on to record an important 2-1 win.

With other results going Avondale’s way, they are now second on the table, three points behind first.

The win also secures some silverware for the club as they are now the 2024 Community Shield winners.
