It took less than seven minutes for the home side, who desperately needed a win, to go behind.

Parma’s Franco Vasquez cut open Benevento’s defence with a through ball to Benedyczak, whose shot went through the legs of Manfredini.

It could have been worse for La Strega, when Dennis Man took the ball around Manfredini but scuffed his finish from a tight angle.

Three minutes before the break saw Man get his goal, finishing Benedyczak’s square pass into an empty net.

Benevento tried to play an offside trap, but it failed and cost them the goal.

Just three minutes after the break and the home side would halve the deficit through a Camillo Ciano header, crossed in by Pasquale Schiattarella.

In the 83rd minute, Parma would go down to ten men after Elias Cobbaut cynically dragged down Ciano after the latter got goal side.

The resulting freekick hit the wall and came back out to Gennaro Acampora, who took one touch to control the ball, then smashed it into the top corner from well outside the box past a diving Buffon.

The draw keeps Benevento alive, but only mathematically. La Strega are looking likely to be relegated.
