The home team had slightly less of the ball and created seven chances to Spezia’s five.

Spezia were awarded a penalty in the first half for a foul on Rachid Kouda, but Luca Moro’s spot kick was saved by Andrea Fulignati.

Catanzaro took the lead just after the break when Tommaso Biasci drove forward and shot into the near post from the edge of the box.

Seven minutes later Spezia scored an own goal through Dimitrios Nikolaou, whose outstretched leg made contact with the ball and wrongfooted keeper Bartlomiej Dragowski.

Marco Pompetti made it 3-0 in the 73rd minute with a long-range blast that went in off the right post.

Spezia are winless from their opening two games.
