A Sicilian regional councillor for Premier Giorgia Meloni's right-wing Brothers of Italy (FdI) party has been indicted on suspicion of corruption.

A Palermo preliminary investigations judge (GIP) on Monday sent the official, Elvira Amata, Sicily's tourism councillor, to trial.

In the same case, the GIP convicted businesswoman Marcella Cannariato of corruption and sentenced her to two and a half years in jail.
