In Saturday night’s final, all 24 participating artists performed their songs for the very last time.
The outcome was determined by the demoscopic jury, the press jury and the televoting.
Then, the overall ranking combining every voting method until that moment was announced, from 24th to fourth place, as well as the top three songs that qualified for the Superfinal.
Diodato bet fellow finalists Francesco Gabbani and Pinguini Tattici Nucleari in the Superfinal, and will represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam with his slow but powerful ballad, Fai rumore (Make Noise).
The 38-year-old was born in Aosta with Apulian roots and had already performed at Sanremo twice before taking out this year’s title.
