The Azzurra, who won five medals including a gold at the last European championships in Budapest in 2020, scored 318.75 and beat Swiss Michelle Heimberg who nabbed silver (301.80), and Britain's Yasmin Harper, who won bronze (296.20).
The other Italian competing, Elisa Pizzini, came 10th. The only Italian ever to have won the world 1m springboard was the great Tania Cagnotto in 2015. Cagnotto also came third in the 3m event at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
Paolo Barelli, president of Italian Swimming Federation Federnuoto warmly commended Italy’s success at the tournament’s close, having “won medals in all disciplines: a beautiful image for all azzurro sport".
"We achieved an excellent result,” he continued in a post published to the federation’s website, “in front of a great public and with a great organization: all lived up to expectations and responsibilities, especially the athletes.”
