With a strong focus on connections and promoting youth participation, the GIA is preparing for a year packed with initiatives and events.

The main event for 2024 is the Youth Convention, planned for May-June.

Stefanelli revealed that the association is still looking for the perfect location to hold the event.

The conference will have a unique format that brings together representatives from every Italian organisation in Australia to discuss challenges the community faces and possible solutions.

The aim is to establish trust and cooperation between new migrants, while addressing specific issues young Italians have in Australia.

“We want to understand how to strengthen youth participation in the Italian association scene in Australia,” stressed Stefanelli, reiterating the importance of actively involving young people in community initiatives.

One activity designed to facilitate rapport between new members and those who have participated in past initiatives is the classic Italian aperitivo, which aims to create an informal and welcoming environment.

The GIA also aims to establish broader connections in the Italian community in Australia through collaborations with other groups of compatriots.

The aim is to expand their network of relationships and consolidate the Italian community abroad.

Stefanelli noted efforts to improve GIA’s online presence through social media and website updates as a key success in 2023.

He also highlighted the success of the two aperitifs organised during the year, which helped to strengthen the sense of community among members.

This year promises to be an exciting one for GIA, with the promise of deeper connections, meaningful collaborations and a renewed commitment to the growth and involvement of young Italians in Australia.
