Limits on train carriages will increase to 68 people per train carriage, up from the current limit of 36.
On buses, 23 people will be able on board at one time up from 12.
But Berejiklian this morning urged people to continue to avoid the network during peak times, if possible.
“Now, this is pleasing for those people who work in places like the CBD, or people who do rely on public transport,” she said of the announcement.
“We’re still encouraging people to travel outside the peak where possible.”
It comes as NSW recorded three new cases of coronavirus overnight, all of which are returned travellers in hotel quarantine.
