The win sees Venezia move up to 17th, five points clear of the relegation playoff zone.
Venezia signalled their intent early with Petko Hristov’s shot rattling against the crossbar.
They would eventually break the deadlock after 21 minutes from a corner, with Andrea Carboni heading in the dead ball by Andersen.
A circus-like error gifted Venezia their second goal via Pohjanpalo.
Goalkeeper Antony Iannarilli and defender Luka Bogdan mixed up who was to clear the ball and, in the end, neither did.
Pohjanpalo ran into an empty goal after Bogdan headed the ball gently into his path.
Venezia were 3-0 up just before half time when Tessmann’s scuffed shot went straight to Ellertsson, who just needed to redirect it past an already moving Iannarilli.
The away side sealed it in the 72nd minute when Cheryshev was found in the box and allowed an eternity to take a touch, set himself up and slot the ball past the keeper.
Ternana would have their consolation seven minutes later when Capanni was also found in the box. After a touch he hit it hard and on target.
Both teams are in the awkward space of not being guaranteed safety but also in with a shot of making the playoffs.
