Orietta won Poni Poselli’s Valentine’s Day competition that was launched on Rete Italia in the lead up to the big day. The prize included a beauty treatment, a professional hairstyling session, a new dress and a Valentine’s Day dinner for two at Il Solito Posto.

On Wednesday, February 14, Orietta came into the Rete Italia/Il Globo studios where she was greeted by Poni Poselli and the women entrusted with her makeover: Silvana Tenace, stylist; Rita Santi, make-up artist; and Teresa De Fazio, owner of the Brunswick beauty salon ‘Shaping’.

Before leaving it in the hands of the professionals, Orietta told us the story of how she met her husband.

“Ours is a simple story,” she began.

“I was barely eighteen when we met. We had both been invited to the wedding of two friends of ours. I was a friend of the bride and had been asked to be her maid of honour, while he was a friend of the groom and was the best man. We had never seen each other before.

“He courted me for a year,” she recalled.

“He is a kind, sincere and selfless man, he likes to help everyone.

“He is my support in everything,” Orietta concluded.

Originally from Rome, Orietta moved to Australia with her family in the early 1960s, when she was only four years old.

After her studies, she worked as a hospital receptionist until her 60s. After four years of retirement, she felt the urge to get back in the game and now works at a clinic in Brunswick.

Orietta loves travelling and camping together with her husband. She’s promised herself that she will travel abroad at least every two years, and one of her favourite destinations is of course dear Italy.

“I didn’t expect to win the competition,” she admitted.

“When they called me, I couldn’t believe it. I certainly didn’t write a poem, but a few words from the bottom of my heart.

“Sometimes, very little is needed to declare something as great as love.”
