The Department of Commerce has announced it will impose anti-dumping duties of over 91 per cent on pasta from January over the case on top of the 15 per cent duties already in place.
“The European Commission, in close coordination with the Italian Government, is cooperating with the United States on the investigation and will intervene if necessary,” said Gill.
“This is an anti-dumping investigation and therefore falls outside the scope of the EU-US joint statement [that underpins the agreement for 15 per cent tariffs].”
The CEO of Italian pasta company La Molisana said Monday that it was ready to open a factory in the United States in a bid to get around the huge tariffs the United States looks set to impose on their products.
“We will try to talk to the US administration because it not possible for us to do business with tariffs at 107 per cent,” said La Molisana Chief Executive Giuseppe Ferro.
