The National Cybersecurity Agency responded to the attacks by both pre-alerting the targets and by providing them with collaborative support for effective damage mitigation and functional recovery, it said.
The Agency also worked in conjunction with the Postal Police.
To date, the affected sites have been restored and have resumed normal operation, according to the agency.
At the same time, the agency provided advice that would further protect institutions.
On the website of Csirt Italia, the Agency's Computer Security Incident Response Team, operational information for the management of 'DDos' attacks are available.
A DDos is a 'distributed denial-of-service' attack that renders online networks and services unusable by flooding them with malware.
