The rock group became the first Italian band ever to win the award for ‘Best Alternative Video’ for the clip that accompanies their hit track ‘I wanna be your slave’.
The four Italians are also in the running for the ‘Best New Artist’ and ‘Group of the Year’ categories, and will be taking to the stage to perform their single ‘Supermodel’ alongside household names such as Blackpink, Lizzo, Jack Harlow, J Balvin, Marshmellow x Khalid, Panic! at the Disco and Kane Brown.
“It’s extraordinary,” said the band’s front man, Damiano David, “We didn’t expect this. It’s an honour. There were so many great artists in the competition.”
On the major categories front, for video of the year nominated are Doja Cat with ‘Woman’, Drake with ‘Way 2 Sexy’ (featuring Future & Young Thug), Ed Sheeran with ‘Shivers’, Harry Styles with ‘As It Was’, Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow with ‘Industry Baby’, Olivia Rodrigo with ‘Brutal’, and Taylor Swift with ‘All Too Well’.
Artist of the year nominees are, Bad Bunny, Drake, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, Jack Harlow, Lil Nas X and Lizzo, while song of the year nominees are ‘Easy on Me’ by Adele, ‘Happier than Ever’ by Billie Eilish, ‘Woman’ by Doja Cat, ‘Cold Heart (Pnau Remix)’ by Elton John and Dua Lipa, ‘About Damn Time’ by Lizzo and ‘Stay’ by The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber.
Having won big alongside these massive industry players, Måneskin have undoubtedly done their many fans and fellow Italians proud, putting the Bell Paese’s music industry on the map as their star continues to rise.
