The convivial event was attended by a large group of Australian MPs and senators, many of Italian origin, who are strongly interested in the development of bilateral relations between the two countries.
They discussed Italy’s growing projection in the Indo-Pacific, the recent participation of the Italian Armed Forces in the Pitch Black 2024 exercise and the upcoming visit of the Amerigo Vespucci training ship to Darwin.
Particular emphasis was given to economic and trade cooperation between the two counties, as there are about 250 Italian companies operating in Australia.
They also discussed business opportunities opening up for Italian products in the wake of the recent ‘Future Made in Australia’ law with which Canberra intends to strengthen its industrial sector.
Vivid interest was also expressed by those present for the cultural initiatives, with particular reference to the upcoming appointments dedicated to the Italian Cuisine Week and the Italian Film Festival, and the intense scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries.
“It is an honour to be hosted here in Parliament for an evening dedicated entirely to Italy,” Ambassador Crudele said.
“The inter-parliamentary collaboration represents an important asset of the bilateral relationship between the two countries…
“The interest of the members of the Australian Parliament for the numerous initiatives promoted by the Embassy and the consular network in Australia testifies to a strong cultural closeness between the two countries, nurtured by a very high-profile Italian community that is fully integrated in the country.”
