The funeral of Italian soccer great Gianluca Vialli, who died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 58 last week, was reportedly set to be held in London on Monday, with only family and close friends taking part.

Vialli died on Friday in the British capital, which had been his place of residence for some time.

Tributes were paid over the weekend to the former forward at many soccer grounds, with especially moving scenes taking place at his former clubs Sampdoria, Juventus and Chelsea.

Vialli helped the Genoa side win the Serie A title in 1991, the 1990 Cup Winner's Cup, three Italian Cups and brought the team to the European Cup final during his time with them in the 1980s and early 1990s.

He won the Serie A title again, as well as the Champions League, after moving to Juventus in 1992.

He then joined Chelsea in 1996 and became player-manager in 1998.

News of his death arrived with Italian soccer still mourning Sinisa Mihajlovic, a Serbia coach and former player who had spent most of his career in Italy, after he died of leukemia in December.

The losses are particularly painful for Italy coach Roberto Mancini, who was close friends with Vialli, his former strike partner at Sampdoria and a member of his backroom staff for the national team, and Mihajlovic.

"Only a few days after Sinisa passed away and I've lost another brother, or little brother as I liked to call him," Mancini said of Vialli over the weekend.

"We met when we were 16 years old and we never left each others' side: Italy's youth and senior teams, Samp, the highs, the lows, the victories and the defeats."
