Italy loses more money due to tax evasion than any other country in the European Union.

In an interview with Sky tg 24, Ruffini reiterated the importance of paying taxes.

"Taxes are the instrument that allows us to live together and pay for citizen services," he said, adding that paying taxes and being honest to the state are an "investment for the future".

"Paradoxically, tax evasion [mitigation] is an asset because if you can bring it down that means more revenue in the Treasury's coffers that is available to Parliament and to the government to enact desired policies.”

According to Ruffini, Italy’s problem of tax avoidance is slowly improving.

"The propensity to evade taxes is decreasing," he said, adding that it is necessary, however, to "attack this mountain of resources".

“[We must] continue with seriousness and determination."
