Rain and thunderstorms are arriving over Italy, starting in the northern regions and later extending to the rest of the country. On the basis of the available forecasts, the Civil Protection Department has issued a weather alert involving 18 regions: for Lombardy and Friuli Venezia Giulia the alert is orange, for all the others, yellow.
The warning foresees widespread rainfall ― which may be very intense at times and accompanied by hail, lightning and strong gusts of wind ― in Piedmont, Liguria, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Tuscany starting Thursday evening.
From Friday morning, the phenomena will affect Campania, Basilicata and Calabria, especially on the Tyrrhenian slopes.
Strong to gale force winds are also expected in Liguria, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Marche, with sea storms along the exposed coasts.
