The news comes less than a year after the couple got engaged in Italy.

Rumours that Beatrice was dating Mozzi broke back in November 2018, but the couple went public with their relationship at the National Portrait Gallery’s annual gala in March 2019.

But who is Beatrice’s new husband Edoardo, or “Edo”, as he’s known to family and friends?

Here’s what we know about the latest addition to the royal family.

He’s an Englishman with Italian heritage

Mozzi was born on November 19, 1983, in London.

He is the son of Olympian Alessandro “Alex” Mapelli Mozzi, an alpine skier who holds both British and Italian citizenship, and Nicola “Nikki” Williams-Ellis MBE, granddaughter of Sir Robert Abraham Burrows of Bonis Hall.

The 36-year-old attended Radley College and the University of Edinburgh.

He’s a friend of Beatrice’s family

Mozzi and Beatrice have reportedly known each other since childhood, and his family have been close friends with her parents, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah, Duchess of York, for decades.

In the couple’s engagement announcement, Mozzi’s parents said: “Our family has known Beatrice for most of her life. Edo and Beatrice are made for each other, and their happiness and love for each other is there for all to see. They share an incredibly strong and united bond, their marriage will only strengthen what is already a wonderful relationship.”

Mozzi’s stepfather was Christopher Shale, a British political operative and close friend of former prime minister, David Cameron.

Shale died from a heart attack at the Glastonbury Festival in 2011.

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson considered Shale a friend as well, and went to his funeral, as did Beatrice.

He’s descended from Italian aristocracy

Mozzi’s father is a count and a member of an Italian noble family whose ancestral seat is the Villa Mapelli Mozzi in the Bergamo province.

Mozzi is also a count, according to media reports.

The title was given to his family in the nobility of Italy in 1913, by King Victor Emmanuel III, to all male descendants imposing the surname and noble family of Mozzi and is incorporated to the family of Mapelli.

He’s a successful property investor worth millions

Mozzi founded real estate firm Banda Property in 2007, at the age of 23, and serves as its CEO to this day.

The company specialises in finding and developing homes for wealthy clients.

Media reports describe him as a “multi-millionaire property tycoon”.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he had developed more than 400,000 square feet of London property with an estimated value of £700 million by the time he was 30.

He also holds directorships in a number of companies, some of them with his mother and his brother-in-law, Tod Yeomans.

He co-founded a charity

Mozzi is behind Cricket Builds Hope (CBH), an organisation that teaches Rwandans how to play cricket, inspired by his late stepfather’s vision.

According to its website, “CBH harnesses the power of sport to promote reconciliation and tackle deep-seated social issues like gender inequality through specially tailored sessions run by CBH’s cricket coaching team”.

The charity has its roots in the Rwanda Cricket Stadium Foundation, which was founded by Mozzi’s stepfather, to build the country’s first grass cricket ground.

Shale dreamed of expanding it into something larger, and after his death in 2011, his friends and family created CBH to do so in his memory.

In 2012, Mozzi cycled 100 kilometres overnight in London in the Nightrider Challenge to raise funds for the foundation.

In lieu of wedding gifts, Beatrice and Edoardo have requested that well-wishers donate to two charities, one of which is CBH.

He has a young son

Mozzi has young a son named Wolfie with Dara Huang, an American architect and designer to whom he was previously engaged.

Wolfie was born in 2016.

Prior to the wedding, there were reports that Mozzi asked the three-year-old to be his best man.

He helped design Beatrice’s engagement ring

Mozzi collaborated with British designer Shaune Leane to create Beatrice’s Victorian- and Art Deco-inspired diamond ring.

“Being able to incorporate both Edoardo and Princess Beatrice’s characters into the design has resulted in a unique ring that represents their love and lives entwining,” Leane said in a statement.
